Talking about the much hyped.. rather rightly hyped Rock scene, todays youth have lost track of this real dope called classic rock. The rock n roll legends The Rolling Stones provided a hint of hard rock in few of their singles, but still considered them as rock n roll. Originating as a blend of rock n roll and Acid rock, hard rock gained its popularity in the mid 70's. Nazareth were one of the pioneers who went off road and dared to experiment on such a fusion of music when the world was busy grooving to psychedelic tunes of the Doors, Jimmy Hendrix and many of the big gun rock n roll players. The group shot to fame in a short period after it debuted in 1971, Dan's crisp voice and touchy lyrics found its way to the hearts of many. Soon the world witnessed one of the greatest hard rock performers that ever walked this earth, the Aerosmith. They defined hard rock as the toxic twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry conquered masses. Soon the peppy rock n roll seemed to exit and a new era of rock was to be formed.
Inspite of less quality hard rock bands, the genre filled the veins of rock addicts. Bands like Van Halen, Ac/Dc, Kiss, Mortley Crue etc were enough to provide the adrenaline rush to the youth.
Hard rock fame found its peak in the 80's, and in no time it was seen as a nuisance by the religious people in the society. As it was considered evil and some also termed them as the Satan Worshipers, the youth was being tried to be kept away from it by their parents which did nothing but help in increasing the anxiety about the genre. Now that it had taken a rebellious charge after the hippes era, people some how seemed to forget Jimmy's golden riffs as the crisp vocals seemed merrier.
But as all that goes up has to come down, so did hard rock. In between the hard rock era, birth to various new genres took place, punk and heavy metal took over the regime. Further till date the rock has its new face called as the Alternative rock, which is a blend of various genres done as per the convinience of the new bands. But compared to the classic rock, it lacks the adrenaline rush, the lyrics could never be as dry as that of Aerosmith and Nazareth, neither as naughty as that of Ac/Dc.
Todays rock scene lacks that something that keeps me from going to the new age music, sounds funny when coming from a 22 yr old like me, but I do love grooving to the tunes of George Harrison's My sweet Lord. Maybe I could not adapt to the music or the new age really lacks the punch.
